Friday, December 02, 2011

Hi all,
Here's from the other day:

Final assignments:
1. Study guide for last quiz: due at time of final

1 PM class’s final official time is Monday, Dec. 5, from 8-10 AM. BUT Professor Nobis can’t get here until 8:30 AM.

2. Paper:
First, read this “Guidelines on writing a philosophy paper”:

Then write a paper! Due at time of final (or possibly later.. let me see)
Topic: homosexuality, abortion, world poverty or eating animals/vegetarianism (pick one and only one!)

Your paper must have an introduction, a thesis and be well organized and argued. You must raise and respond to objections. You should present at least 5 arguments in logically valid form on the topic and explain whether they are sound or not.

DUE BY FRIDAY December 9 AT NOON VIA EMAIL – NOBISHOMEWORK@GMAIL.COM and IN HARDCOPY
UNLESS YOU ARE A GRADUATING-THIS-SEMESTER SENIOR: THEN IT IS DUE THURSDAY December 8 BY NOON

3. Extra credit paper:
top 10 list for helpful do's and/or don't's for thinking critically about moral issues. Due at time of final (or possibly later.. let me see)

Give the do or don't and a paragraph to explain it, using examples.

Some people have an erroneous copy of the article for Wednesday because it has two page 3's. Here is the correct version:
"Reasonable Humans and Animals," John Simmons:
http://sites.google.com/site/aphilosopher/veg.pdf

Again, a detailed summary of the arguments and objections should be sent to the homework email address, available on the blog.
Thanks!
